Why Criminals Should Worry About Climate Change
Lake Mead: the East River of the West?
Scenic Lake Mead Recreational Area feeds the Colorado River through Hoover Dam, a National Historic Landmark. Families enjoy camping, fishing, kayaking, biking and hiking in this beautiful desert setting. The spectacular Valley of Fire State Park is to the north. So, I was a little stunned, but maybe I shouldn’t be, to hear about the discovery of a victim of a homicide some 40 years ago at this tourist destination.
Lake Mead, like much of the Southwest, has suffered several years of drought, pushing its docks back further into the lake as the water line drops.
Realizing the closeness of the lake to Las Vegas, I wonder if Lake Mead is the East River of the west. Perhaps criminals should worry about climate change.
