Pizza Dough Recipe with and without bread maker
A bread maker takes the work out of making your own pizza. This is great for the budget with ingredients most folks have at home. You can make this (and we have) when you don't have a bread maker. We like to substitute some whole wheat for some of the white flour.

- 1 tbsp yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees)
- 4 cups white flour Option: Substitute 1 cup whole wheat for 1 cup of white.
- 1 cup warm water additional
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
Sprinkle 1 tbsp. yeast into 1/4 cup warm water (heated to 110 degrees). Let rest 2 minutes. Stir to dissolve yeast completely.
Combine yeast mixture with flour, an additional 1 cup of warm water, honey, salt and olive oil. Knead 10 minutes, adding flour if necessary.
Cover and let rise until double, approx. 1 hour.
Punch down and divide in two.
Flatten one half to desired size in oiled baking pan. Cover, let rise 20 minutes.
Layer favorite sauce and toppings. Sprinkle with olive oil. Bake in 475-500 degree oven for 15-20 minutes.
Makes dough for 2 12" pizzas.
Coat remaining 1/2 of the pizza dough with a little olive oil and place in plastic bag in refrigertor. Can be frozen.
Bread maker version:
Heat 1 1/4 cups water to 110 degrees. Stir in yeast and let sit for 2 minutes. Drop into bread maker and add oil and honey. Add flour and salt last. Use Pizza Dough setting. Ours takes 50 minutes in the bread maker.
Options:
We may substitute 1 cup of wheat flour for 1 cup of white flour. The Honey-Wholewheat crust is great with BBQ chicken pizza.
Add 1/4 tsp of dry Italian dressing mix, such as Good Seasons or garlic powder.
